“Help me, help you!” Sony Pictures is re-releasing this 90s comedy classic again for its 30th anniversary this year. Director Cameron Crowe’s third movie, Jerry Maguire, ended up landing a total of five Oscar noms after opening in late 1996. Tom Cruise was nominated, but only his co-star Cuba Gooding Jr. won the Oscar for Best Supporting Performance. After first opening in 1996 it’s getting a brief theatrical run for 3 nights only this April. When a sports agent has a moral epiphany and is fired for expressing it, he decides to put his new philosophy to the test as an independent agent with the only athlete who stays with him and his former colleague. Jerry must start over and rebuild his life from the ground up. Starring Tom Cruise stars as the titular Jerry Maguire, with Cuba Gooding, Jr., Renee Zellweger, Kelly Preston, Jerry O’Connell, Jay Mohr, and Bonnie Hunt. Also featuring cinematography from maestro DP Janusz Kaminski. This was a huge hit back in the late 90s – opening in theaters in December and playing big for months into 1997 before winning that Oscar. It’s much more of a sweet romcom than a sports movie – which is how this trailer plays. Another upcoming iconic anniversary re-release to catch on the big screen this year if you’re up for it.
Here’s the new 30th Anniversary trailer for Cameron Crowe’s Jerry Maguire, from Sony’s YouTube:

Tom Cruise was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of a successful sports agent who is fired from a high-powered agency when he develops an honorable streak. To his dismay, he finds he has also lost most of his clients and his fiancée, publicist Avery Bishop (Kelly Preston). With only the least-important client on his once-full roster, undersized wide receiver Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.), and the one person from his ex-firm who believes in him, wistful single mother Dorothy Boyd (Renée Zellweger), Jerry must start over and rebuild his life from the ground up. Jerry Maguire is directed by acclaimed American filmmaker Cameron Crowe, his third feature film at the time after Say Anything (1989) and Singles (1992) and before making Almost Famous (2000) next. The screenplay is written by Raynold Gideon & Bruce A. Evans. Produced by James L. Brooks, Richard Sakai, Laurence Mark, Cameron Crowe. This first opened in theaters on December 13th, 1996 earning an impressive $153 million at the box office. Sony Pictures will re-release Jerry Maguire in theaters on April 12th & 14th & 15th, 2026 coming up soon. Any big fans of this one?
