Amores Perros Trailer 25th Anniversary

“25 years later – the wound is still alive.” Mubi has revealed a brand new 25th anniversary re-release trailer for the iconic, indie classic Amores Perros, the first feature by Mexican director Alejandro G. Iñárritu. This initially premiered at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors Fortnight sidebar, launching the career of Iñárritu who would go on to win Oscars and make a handful of all-timer movies. An amateur dog fighter, a supermodel, & worn out assassin, all separately struggling to find love, find their lives transformed by a devastating car wreck in Mexico City. The film stars Emilio Echevarría, Gael García Bernal, Goya Toledo, Álvaro Guerrero, Vanessa Bauche, Jorge Salinas, Adriana Barraza, Humberto Busto. The film’s official title is a pun in Spanish; the word “perros”, which literally means “dogs”, can also be used to refer to misery, so that it roughly means “bad loves” with canine connotations. The film was released under its Spanish title in the English-speaking world, although it was sometimes translated as Love’s a Bitch in marketing. The soundtrack includes songs by Latin American rock bands including Café Tacuba, Control Machete, and Illya Kuryaki & the Valderramas. This new 4K version was restored from the 35 mm original camera negative, which was scanned in 16-bit 4K resolution. The color & final grading was supervised and approved by director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, as well as director of photography Rodrigo Prieto. View it below.

Amores Perros Trailer 25th Anniversary

A fatal car crash in Mexico City sets off a chain of events in the lives of 3 people: a supermodel, a young man wanting to run off with his sister-in-law, and a homeless man. They are catapulted into unforeseen situations instigated by the seemingly inconsequential destiny of a dog. As a groundbreaking moment for early 2000s Mexican cinema and winner of the Grand Prize at the 2000 Festival de Cannes Critics Week, Amores Perros retains its full and undiminished power. Let us meet with Alejandro G. Iñárritu to celebrate the anniversary of his first film. Amores Perros is directed by acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu (aka Alejandro González Iñárritu), his very first feature film at the time before going on to make 21 Grams (2003). The screenplay is written by Guillermo Arriaga Jordán. Also produced by Iñárritu. This initially premiered at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival, and also played at NYFF that year, then didn’t open in theaters until the next year – starting in March 2001. The film recently premiered again as a restoration at this year’s Cannes. Mubi will re-release Iñárritu’s Amores Perros in select theaters starting in early October – and will be streaming on Mubi starting October 24th, 2025 coming soon this fall. Any fans of this film?
